The long term fallout of Mike Alden's mismanagement of the athletic department will be the micromanagement of it by academics. There already is a movement to change the power structure so that the A.D. reports directly to the university president. The call for the board of curators and President Floyd to intervene is a double edge sword. While we want Alden to feel the heat, we also don't want overmanagement by a collection of eggheads. The only solution is to find an athletic director who has the credibility and personality to win the trust of the curators and the president.
